A one week motivational educational outdoor camp for children from several children’s homes in Slovakia in the spirit of on the “4 Elements” (Earth, Water, Fire, and Air). Together with professional leaders we try to awaken in children the desire for adventure, discovery, competitiveness, and team spirit.

Place:                          Recreational Facility SPOJAR, Žiarska Dolina, Western Tatras
Target group:            Approximately 30 children from 3-4 children’s homes in Slovakia
Team:                          30 children, 6 supervisors from children’s homes, 6 camp leaders, possibility of inclusion of people from the corporate sector into the groups.
 
PROGRAM:
 
Focus of the camp:
 
The core of the camp is built on outdoor sports, team games and competitions when the teams are created by mixing children from various children’s homes. The camp has also an educational component trying to influence the creation of values in children’s lives as well as motivate their self-esteem and ambition.

 
Focus of the activities:
·         Team competitions and games
·         Trips, hikes, outdoor sports and games under the leaderships of instructors who try to stimulate children’s ambition, will to push one’s limits, endurance, goal orientation (climbing, rafting, hiking etc.)
·         Educational activities in the form of sessions with famous people from the world of environmental protection, meteorology, forestry, mountain sports etc.
·         Foreign language education – English
·         Excursions
 
Day 1:
  • Introduction, creation of corporate identity of individual teams, team competitions
  • In the evening: film showing of Paľo Barabáš
  • Evening party
Day 2:
  • Hike in the Western Tatras, cleaning up the trails from trash
  • Team competitions
  • English lesson
  • Presentation on the first Element: Earth – environment protection, cycle of the life of a forest, what do animals do in the winter?
  • Adventure evening game
Day 3:
  • Climbing and roping course in Demänovska dolina under the supervision of mountain leaders
  • Team competitions
  • Presentation on the second Element: Water – What is the cycle of water? Where does rain come from? How are rivers created? Why is water so important?
  • Films and slideshow about rafting expeditions on the river OMO or the While Nile
  • Evening games and entertainment
Day 4:
  • Rafting on the river Vah; in the afternoon games near Liptovska Mara
  • Presentation on the third Element: Air – What is the atmosphere and the air that we breathe? Where does it come from? How is weather created? Where does wind come from? Can the weather be predicted? Why do storms exist and what is a lightning?
  • English lesson
  • Team games and entertainment
Day 5:
  • Hike in the High Tatras combined with an excursion at the meteorologic station SHMU; observing the weather and the stars
  • Presentation on the fourth Element: Fire – focus on astronomy: Sun, stars as a sources of light and energy
  • Bond fire, roasting sausages, songs
Day 6:
  • Speleologic trip to a cave, team competitions
  • Visit of Tatralandia
  • English lesson
  • Good bye party combined with the evaluation of the best team and handing over of prices
Day 7:
  • Games and departure
Continuation of the project:
 
A) In cooperation with children’s home “Pohoda”, this pilot will be a year-long motivational educational program focusing on education, multilevel development and the search for the best potential of these children. Activities are implemented through workshops, trainings and all day programs focused on:
 
  • Education (foreign languages and information technology)
  • General knowledge and learning by motivation (science, culture, art, meetings with famous people)
  • Skills development
  • Culture, art, sport
  • Development of personal talents and aptitudes (development of “soft” skills: communication, team work, presentation skills, volunteer activities)
 
B) International summer outdoor camp “4 Elements”, summer 2008
 
  • Follow up to the 2007 camp
  • International participation and integration with children from families and children from children’s homes of neighboring countries
  • Outdoor sports and motivationally educational workshops
  • Foreign languages education and intercultural understanding
